Short Korean essay about Hangul Day

Intro

Hangul Day (October 9th) is a day that commemorates the invention of the Korean alphabet. We read about it in Korean class and had to write a short essay summarizing our readings. I’m sharing two versions: one filled with mistakes, and the corrected version from my teacher. The corrected version has some color coded highlights: blue for vocabulary, green for grammar, and red for words I like.

한글 - 차라한 문화 발전

한글은 읽기와 쓰기를 배우기 쉽다는 점 때문에 실천적이고 과학적이라고 말 한다. 한글은 도대체 언제 누가 만들었다?

옛날 한국에서는 양반들은 주로 한자로 책을 읽고, 편지를 쓰기도 한다. 반면에 백성을은 한자가 어렵기 때문에 쓸 수 없었다. 모든 사람이 끌자를 이해 할수록 세종 대왕은 한글을 창제했다.

하지만, 한글은 1920년 까지 통일된 맞춤법이 없었고 사람들은 자유곱게 한글을 쓰고, 아직 한자를 사랑하는 양반들은 한글을 낮추어 보고, 결국 그렇게 인정 받아지 못한다.

다행이, 한글을 지키기 위해 주시경과 헐버트 같은 인물이 많이 노력해서 한글의 영행이 전 세계에 끼쳤다.

그들 덕본에, 캐나다에 있는 저도 한국어을 공부 시작 했다.

한글쓰기와 읽기를 배우기 쉽다는 점있기 때문에 실천적이고 과학적이라고 말한다. 그렇다면 한글은 언제, 누가 만들었을까?

옛날 한국에서는 양반들은 주로 한자로 된 책을 읽고, 편지를 쓰기도 했다. 반면에 백성들 은 한자가 어렵기 때문에 쓸 수 없었다. 그래서 세종대왕은 모든 백성이 글을 읽고, 쓸 수 있도록 한글을 창제했다.

하지만, 한글은 1920년까지 통일된 맞춤법이 없었고, 일반 백성들은 자유롭게 한글을 썼지만, 아직 한자를 사랑하는 양반들은 한글을 낮추어 보았기에, 그때는 한글이 인정받지 모했다.

다행히 한글을 지키기 위해 주시경과 헐버트가 중심이 되어 노력한 결과, 한글을 지키고 후대에 전파할 수 있게 되었다.

그 영향으로, 캐나다에 있는 나도 한국어를 배울 수 있게 되었다.

Notes

I noticed that I needed to specify my subjects. One example of this is replacing 사람 with 백성. Also, a lot of writing or anything really is remembering the tools you have at your disposal. In writing, one of these tools is knowing what grammatical patterns you can use. Using 게 되다 or 도록 and simply being aware of sentence connectors improved the flow of my text. If you feel bored with your writing style (don’t know what tools you have), I suggest learning more words and new patterns from various sources. ^1.
